Over 40 law firms from Bristol and the surrounding area were brought together at Canon’s House on 22 June at the BLS annual civil litigation conference, supported by Lloyds TSB Commercial and Wesleyan for Lawyers. The conference, chaired by HH Judge Denyer QC, featured a keynote address by Lord William Bach, Opposition Spokesman for Justice, who shared his views on the Jackson Reforms and his thoughts on the MoJ’s proposals on the Legal Aid system. This was followed by excellent presentations from prestigious speakers on a variety of subjects, including a Civil Litigation update/Part 36s by James Ramsden and Jennie Thelan, Law Firm Finance in an ABS world by Chris Marston, Imran Benson giving an update on professional negligence, Roger Isaacs on Forensic Recovery and Martha Maher on Partners and LLP Members’ Liabilities. An overwhelming majority rated the conference excellent/good. Rosie Torre, BLS Business Manager, said: “The issues discussed at this event were all of great current relevance to the profession and it is important that local lawyers get together, debate their views and voice their opinions. We are grateful to Wesleyan for Lawyers and Lloyds TSB for sponsoring the event and for Lloyds for hosting it at Canon’s House”.
