On Thursday March 29th, Bristol Law Society is pleased to invite all members to come along to put questions to local MP Kerry McCarthy. To be held at the Law Library, this free event will give you the opportunity to put your views to Kerry, ask questions about issues that affect you and give members access to a local MP. We anticipate that you may want to put forward your views on the future of legal aid, competition in the legal profession as well as a range of other matters affecting the legal profession on a local and national level. Don’t miss this free opportunity, which will be held  at 5.30pm on March 29th 2012. Details will be circulated by email.

Following the Question and Answer session, it is hoped members may like to adjourn to All Bar One near the Law Library for a social drink and to mix with fellow members.

One of six children, Kerry McCarthy attended comprehensive school in Luton before going on to study Russian, Politics and Linguistics at Liverpool University and to take her law exams in London. Before her election as the MP for Bristol East in 2005, Kerry was a solicitor for Merrill Lynch, working on cross-border transactions on behalf of a range of international clients. In 2010 Kerry was re-elected and is  now a shadow Foreign Office Minister with responsibilities will include key issues such as human rights, migration, international crime and the drugs trade, as well as UK relations with China, the Far East, South East Asia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Kerry’s main policy areas of interest are: the economy; tackling poverty; foreign policy; international aid and trade; transport; and crime and justice. Kerry is a member of the Transport and General Workers Union, the Co-operative Party, the Fabian Society, the Howard League for Penal Reform, and the Labour Animal Welfare Society.
