Arts and Business are looking for junior lawyers in Bristol to join their Young Professionals on Arts Boards programme in 2012. The scheme places young people as non-executive board members and advisors with not-for-profit arts organisations.
In return for bringing their skills, business acumen and insight in areas such as finance, human resources, law and marketing, junior lawyers can get the chance to help shape the cultural life of their community and work with committed and creative people whilst broadening their own networks and governance experience.
Local firm TLT have placed a number of lawyers with local organisations. Robert Bourns, Senior Partner, told Legal Life that “We have sought to move away from relying purely on traditional training courses for ‘soft skills’, as well as allowing people to develop relevant skills from outside of the firm that are directly transferable into the workplace. As a result, we are delighted to have formed an association with Arts & Business which allows our staff to contribute to the boards of art-based businesses. The Arts & Business Board Bank & Young Professionals schemes provide an opportunity for TLT staff to engage with the UK’s cultural sector and to put something back into the community. It also gives people real life experience and an opportunity to develop key skills.”
Mark Stockdale, one of TLT’s volunteer board members, added that he was attracted to the Young Professionals on Arts Boards Programme by “the opportunity to contribute and be involved in the local arts scene, while gaining non-executive director/trustee experience and hopefully broadening my skills set”.
