CHARITY OF THE YEAR 2012

logo-sml

For the past 25 years Quartet Community Foundation has been helping local people to support the local causes and issues they care about. This year we are marking this 25th Anniversary with a series of events and activities to celebrate the fantastic work being undertaken within our communities and the generosity of our donors in helping to make this happen.

Working flexibly with these donors – individuals, companies, charitable trusts and others – we channel their funding to support the work of local charitable projects across the West of England. This funding provides local people with life-changing opportunities, activities and services and over the past 25 years we have distributed grants totalling over £26 million on behalf of our donors.

In the last 12 months Quartet has made over 1,000 grants totalling £2.5 million. These grants have supported a huge range of local projects – – relieving isolation for older people, creating diversionary activities for young people and providing vital equipment for community centres for example – where a small amount of money can make a big different. (For a list of the grants made in the last month please go to http://www.quartetcf.org.uk/docs/grants/12.2011.pdf)

A core part of our work is to build a capital fund – made up of individual donors’ pooled endowment funds – with which to provide a source of long term support for local causes. Set up in 1990, today we manage endowment funds on behalf of our donors worth over £16 million.

Corporate donors that channel their charitable giving through us include a number of Bristol-based solicitors such as Burges Salmon, Wards Solicitors, Withy King, Veale Wasbrough Vizards and Osborne Clarke.

Individual donors include a number of legacies: Florence Denning was a long-standing Bristol resident who left us a gift of over £54,000, establishing the Florence Denning endowment fund in her memory to support projects working with older people in Bristol.

We believe donors such as this, by channelling their charitable giving through Quartet, have made a real difference to the quality of life for local people over the past 25 years and we look forward to supporting their commitment into the future.
