The Team

The Commercial Services Practice Group encompasses all aspects of the commercial operation of this national fim's clients including teams with specialisms in Insurance Commercial, Health Commercial, Technology, European law and Competition, Public Sector Commercial, Construction and Engineering and Commercial Contracts.

                       

 

The Role 

Within this role the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a highly varied workload for clients within the health sector, drafting and reviewing contracts and negotiating deals with third parties. The scope of the work the team undertakes is large and includes: commissioning contracts (acting for both NHS commissioners and providers) for acute, community and mental health services; drafting Foundation Trust constitutions and related FT application support; advising Trust Boards on governance issues, procurement of goods and services including IT, medical devices, clinical services; outsourcing contracts; and EU Procurement and competition advice including handling challenges.

 

The successful applicant will help to supervise junior members of the team whilst leading in the project management of large and small public sector and health procurement.  With significant day to day client contact he/she will be fielding general queries from clients and third parties and also taking part in general marketing and client development (including pitches and tenders).

 

There is a continuing training programme for all fee earners in the department including a national annual training weekend.

 

The Person  

An experienced solicitor with strong exposure to commercial work with NHS clients, typically gained through 3 or more years pqe.  Must have an understanding of the workings of the NHS and a sound academic background along with experience in a firm with a strong reputation for commercial work.

 

As he/she will be dealing with clients on a daily basis it is vital that they have excellent client handling skills and are able to step back and understand the client’s commercial objectives and deliver pragmatic, commercially oriented solutions.

 

Must be able to balance working on own initiative (subject to appropriate supervision and training), with functioning as part of team and able to work to deadlines.
