NOTICE is hereby given that an extraordinary general meeting of the Bristol Law Society (“the Society”) will be held on Tuesday 20 February 2018 at Bradford House, 12 Colston Avenue, Bristol, BS1 4SZ at 5.30pm for the purpose of considering the following business:

  1. Receiving Apologies


  1. Proposed amendments to the Articles of Association of The Bristol Law Society as set out in the amended Articles attached to this Notice. BLS – Amended Articles of Association for adoption at EGM on 20 February 2018 – Marked up(26037036_1) (2) (2)


  1. The election of new ordinary members of the Council.

Registered Office: Bradford House, 12 Colston Avenue, Bristol, BS1 4SZ.  A member entitled to attend the meeting is entitled to appoint a Proxy to attend in his/her place.  A proxy need not be a member of the society.


Note: The Society’s Articles of Association require that nominations for election should be left with the Honorary Secretary at the BLS office, not less than 7 days before the extraordinary general meeting and shall be signed by two or more members of the Society.




  1. The following shall be eligible for membership of the Society:

1.1         any person who has been admitted as a solicitor and or whose name is on the roll of solicitors;

1.2         any admitted solicitor being currently employed by a recognised provider of legal education;

1.3         any retired person who prior to retirement was, or would, if these Articles had been in force at the time of his retirement, have been, eligible to be a member under this Article 4; and

1.4         any solicitor who is not qualified under the foregoing provisions but whom the Council shall individually approve for election as a member.
