Virtual Law Clinic – Can you help with employment or family law advice?

Can you spare around 2 hours a month to help people who are stuck in need of FAMILY or EMPLOYMENT law advice?

Avon and Bristol Law Centre (based in Stokes Croft, Bristol), in partnership with Citizens Advice’s North and South Somerset and with funding from the Legal Education Foundation, need your help to provide straightforward one-off 30/45 minute Skype appointments.

You can help direct from your office or from here at ABLC where we will set everything up for you. You will Skype to some of the many clients in the remoter Somerset areas who cannot currently access free/pro bono legal advice. The clients attend at their nearest Citizens Advice – Weston Super Mare or Yeovil for the appointment.

We are currently seeking FAMILY and EMPLOYMENT lawyers – sufficiently experienced Solicitors and Barristers to cover some shifts (with flexibility on frequency) on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

This will help us fill the rotas and keep the service going for more clients, also making it cost effective and sustainable.

The aim is to create more partnerships and a sustainable Skype service which clients can access from a variety of venues and where no one is excluded due to lack of funds or accessibility.

We are measuring the benefits to the clients which we already know are substantial in terms of aiding their understanding of the law and empowering them to move things forward and often to resolve issues positively at an early stage. We are trialling different ways of using technology to increase efficiency and the volunteer and client experience. There is huge potential here. We hope you will get involved!
