The Bristol Junior Lawyers Division recently presented £4929.06 for their charity of the year, the Alzheimer’s Society. Rachel Sweet attended the presentation night in November to accept the cheque on behalf of the charity. The funds will be used to support the continued work of the charity in helping those affected by dementia.
Bristol JLD raised the money through a variety of events including their annual ball, pub quizzes and prize raffles. Two of the committee members put their trainers on for the cause, with the committee’s vice-chair Ali Batchelor (Withy King LLP) and charity liaison Laura Cavill (RAC Legal Services) running the Bath and Bristol half marathons respectively.
The JLD Chair, Nicola Cunnington (DAC Beachcroft) says:
“It’s been another great year for us both in terms of fundraising and the quality of the events which we have put on for our members. It is wonderful to give such an impressive amount to the charity and to know that the money will be put to good use in the local area.
Special thanks must go to our generous local sponsors. Their support enables us to host our charitable, social and educational events throughout the year for our members and we really couldn’t do it without them.
We’ve set the bar high with this cheque amount but I’ve no doubt that the committee will be very keen to try to exceed this amount next year!”
The Bristol Junior Lawyers Division have now confirmed that their charity of the year for 2013 will be Children’s Hospice South West.
