New work placement opportunities for UWE Bristol law students

UWE’s Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP) is offering an exciting new work placement opportunity to students as part of a new collaboration with leading international law firm CMS McKenna.

UWE’s best performing Civil Litigation and Property LPC (Legal Practice Course) students will be interviewed for the chance to join CMS McKenna’s Bristol office in summer 2013 for a work placement.

This new arrangement between the largest provider of professional legal education in the South West and one of Bristol’s leading international law firms adds to UWE’s success in its sustained and long standing efforts to secure high quality work experience for its LPC students.

CMS partner Phil Woodfield said: “We’re delighted to be supporting UWE Bristol in providing career opportunities to exceptional students, and in doing so bolstering our talent pool for training contract positions in Bristol and throughout the UK. Our involvement affirms our commitment to developing and supporting local talent in the South West.”

Dagmar Steffens, Head of the LPC at UWE Bristol and executive member of the Institute, agrees: “Our students are of a high calibre, and many are excelling here on the LPC. Previous work experience is increasingly considered a pre-requisite for securing a training contract or other legal employment after the LPC. Not all of our students are in the position to arrange this for themselves, for a great variety of reasons. I am very pleased that some of our high achievers will be able to attend interviews at CMS, and that one of them will have the privilege of experiencing the firm’s work first hand in the summer. This is in addition to our very successful work placement scheme that will run in collaboration with Bristol Law Society over Easter and summer again this year.”

The Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP) is holding an Open Event on 6 March 2013. The event provides an opportunity to find out more about the professional legal practice courses (GDL/BPTC/LPC) available at UWE. There will also be further BILP Open events on 8 May 2013 and 15 June 2013.
