New Recruitment Spring/Summer 2024

• We are recruiting salaried Judges across 4 of our regions in May 2024.

• We also anticipate a fee paid Judges competition launching around the same period.

All competitions are run by the Judicial Appointments Commission.

Our Work and Our Judges

We handle applications and appeals relating to a wide, and widening, range of residential property disputes, including:

  • Leasehold management- e.g. service charges, breach of covenant, appointment of managers
  • Enfranchisement disputes; Rent assessment cases; Park Homes disputes
  • Housing Act 2004 and Housing and Planning Act 2016 appeals and applications
  • Building Safety Act 2022 applications; Telecommunications Code and related

We have a relatively small team of salaried Judges, hearing cases and dealing with various other matters. Equally, many cases are heard by fee paid Judges. Our Judges usually sit with other specialist members and throughout the region. We are particularly interested in encouraging applications from women, people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities. We would also welcome applications from Chartered Legal Executives to broaden our professional base.

The Event

Given the size of the region, we anticipate attendance will predominantly be remote, but you are welcome to attend the regional office in person. You will hear from David Whitney (Regional Judge), Jonathan Dobson (Deputy RJ) and Regional Surveyor Johanna Coupe, recently appointed through the JAC process. We will be joined by Yesim Sharp, Selection Exercise Manager at the Judicial Appointments Commission. They will talk you through their roles, the Tribunal’s work and tips to successfully navigate the application process. We will then allow plenty of time for questions.

If you would like to attend please contact Nicola.Paterson@Justice.gov.uk as soon as possible (and in any event by 19th April 2024). Please provide your name, practice background and whether you intend to come in person or would like a link to join remotely. It would help if you could indicate where you are based geographically. We look forward to meeting you!
