Co-presidents, Edward and Erin were sad to hear of the death of the Chief Executive of Bristol Drugs Project, Maggie Telfer OBE on 12 January 2023. Bristol Drugs Project was the co-presidents' charity of the year for 2021/2022.

Maggie founded BDP in 1986 and was instrumental in BDP’s early pioneering work in the city. Since 1986 Maggie has led BDP as a provider of Bristol’s services for people, families and communities affected by drugs or alcohol

Maggie’s work was defined by her drive to challenge inequality and stigma faced by some of the most vulnerable in our society. BDP as a charity has worked alongside local government, law enforcement, health, education and community agencies to help people fulfil their potential, leading to safer and healthier lives.

All of Maggie’s innovative, ground breaking hard work has led to Bristol now being widely recognised as at the leading edge of tackling the issues surrounding drug and alcohol use. Maggie was awarded an OBE in 2007 in recognition of her achievements and was one of the 100 most influential women in the West.

All of our thoughts at Bristol Law Society are with Maggie’s family and the Bristol Drugs Project family at this difficult time.

BDP have created a legacy fund for Maggie, if you would like to donate, please click here.
