President’s Round-Up for September

  • Posted on

BLS President, Ashley Palminteri rounds-up forthcoming events at BLS.

May I welcome everyone back from their summer holiday. If you’re like me it’s taken a couple of weeks to get back into the old routine.

I intend to keep this round-up relatively brief. The next couple of months are going to be busy with a number of events being held in September and October.

Legal Walk

This is now been rescheduled for Monday, 23 September at 5.45pm from the Civil Courts. The organisers want this to be the biggest and best legal walk that Bristol has hosted. We are encouraging teams to register. If you haven’t already, please may I urge you to contact South West Legal Trust on bristolwalk@swlst.org.uk to confirm your attendance. Drinks and nibbles afterwards.

Annual Dinner

Our flagship Annual Awards Dinner is fast approaching on Thursday, 10 October. The success of the event depends upon nominations. There are 15 awards which range from non-fee earner to law student to law firm of the year.

Please do consider nominating either your firm or a deserving colleague for an award. The nomination form can be found on Bristol Law Society’s website. Deadlines for nominations are Monday, 16 September.

Equally, please reserve your table for the event. There are a limited number and a significant amount have been reserved already. You will find the booking form on our website. Tickets are £65 plus VAT per person (£720 per table of 10), which includes champagne reception, 4 course dinner and wine supplied by Averys.

Conferences

We have two conferences scheduled in autumn. The first is our Private Client Conference, to be hosted at Burges Salmon on Wednesday 25 September. And second, is our Property Conference to be hosted at Veale Wasbrough Vizards onThursday 24 October. Essential for those of you short for CPD. Further details and booking forms can be found on our website.

Newly Qualified’s event

Following on from the success of last year, we are hosting another evening in the law library for all newly qualified solicitors. The evening has kindly been sponsored by Wesleyan for Lawyers and Osborne Clarke. If you are a trainee and due to qualify this month or have qualified in the last 12 months, then please do come along to this event. It is an informal event with a short welcome from His Honour Judge Roach. Please contact Valerie Squire to reserve your free place.

Christmas party

If your firm or department is now planning your Christmas party, may I suggest that you consider The Christmas Spiegel tent on Thursday, 19 December. The organisers through No5 Chambers have reserved the evening for lawyers only, in the hope that sufficient numbers will attend. They will then arrange a themed evening of music, dance and entertainment.

I’m told by those that attended last year, that it was an excellent evening and good value. I myself will certainly be taking a table. Book now on info@christmasspiegeltent.co.uk / 0117 3789 663.
