Robert Bourns

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Robert Bourns, BLS President from 2005 - 2006 and winner of our President's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2016. Robert was highly regarded by all those who knew him and were lucky enough to work alongside him during his time at BLS. He remained a great supporter and friend of BLS recognising the value that local law societies provide their members. He later went on to become President of The Law Society.

We are currently liaising with TLT who are in contact with his family and will be sharing a fuller obituary and any public details regarding funeral or memorial arrangements in the coming days.

In the meantime, we send our sincere condolences to his family, friends, his colleagues at TLT, The Law Society and the many people and organisations of Bristol who knew him well. He will be truly missed.

Three things to say about my experience of working with Bristol Law Society. Their central team, council members and general hangers-on are just about the nicest, most generous group of people working in the legal sector today. The numerous events, awards, socials and conferences I’ve had the pleasure to attend over the years have been, without exception, top quality and supremely organised. And, thirdly, they consistently exceed and challenge the boundaries of what lawyers might assume a regional Law Society will restrict activities to – from a hugely successful charitable school meals drive to corporate social responsibility and diversity campaigns to being joint architects and coordinators of the region’s unique Bristol+BathLegalTech group, which it has been my privilege to co-chair for the last five years.
