It is with sadness that BLS has been informed of the passing of former President, Sir Richard Gaskell.

Sir Richard Gaskell sadly passed away on 17th July 2015.  Sir Richard was President of Bristol Law Society in 1978-1979 and went on to be President of the Law Society of England & Wales in 1988-1999. Sir Richard also served as President of ASWLS in 1980-1.

Sir Richard was a former senior partner of Lawrence Tucketts which later become part of national law firm TLT. We understand that there will be a private family funeral but donations if wished can be made to Dorothy House.

It is not possible to summarise Sir Richard's rich and varied life and do him justice in just a few words but Bristol Law Society would like to extend its sincere condolences to Sir Richard's family on behalf of the legal sector in and around Bristol and express thanks to Sir Richard to his huge contribution to the legal profession, to the region and numerous organisations and charities.

Sir Richard was a Chairman and Vice-President of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust; Chairman and Vice President of the SS Great Britain Project, and also served as Deputy Chairman of Bristol Water Holdings PLC.
