Solicitors’ PII Market Report – January 2026

  • Posted on

The solicitors’ PII market continued to favour buyers during the 1 October 2025 renewal season, with strong insurer appetite and additional capacity helping deliver smoother outcomes for many firms.

Our January 2026 report highlights the key trends behind this shift and offers our view on how the market is likely to develop through the 1 April 2026 renewal and the rest of the year.

Smoother process

For firms that renewed on 1 October 2025, the process was noticeably smoother than in previous years. As highlighted in our July 2025 report, the market had shifted back into soft territory - a trend that continued throughout the 1 October renewal period.

Increase in insurer capacity

We saw a significant increase in insurer capacity and appetite, with several new entrants boosting competition. Both brokers and insurers were clearly motivated to win new business, contributing to an overwhelmingly positive renewal experience for our clients.

Favourable renewal expected at 1 April 2026

Looking ahead, we expect a similarly favourable environment for the 1 April 2026 renewal, and generally throughout the rest of 2026.

In this edition of our Market Report, we review:

  • The state of the market at the 1 October 2025 renewal season
  • Key factors driving the current softening trend
  • Our predictions for how the market is likely to develop during 2026
