The Law Society response to the Interest on Lawyers’ Client Accounts Scheme consultation

The Law Society has taken a number of steps in relation to this consultation already, including:
- Writing to the Lord Chancellor outlining our opposition to the proposals and requesting an extension to the unduly short deadline.
- Issuing a press release and sharing information with our members, including our recent webinar.
- Preparing a detailed response and engaging with members and stakeholders, including legal aid professionals and the banking sector.
- Continuing media work and political lobbying.
We are continuing to encourage members to submit a response to the consultation, and have now updated our dedicated webpage with key information for members, including:
- Our concerns with the scheme
- Key points you may wish to include in your response
- Key statistics
The webpage also includes a recording of our recent webinar for members where we summarised the key issues raised in the consultation – you can also download the webinar slides or read the summary of our key points on the webpage.
Please share our webpage with your committees and with your members more widely, and encourage them to submit a response by 9 February.
