Why Michelmores? Michelmores is the destination law firm for the ambitious, the imaginative and the distinctive. We help enterprises and individuals navigate change to find a positive future.

We are a flexible, friendly and inclusive organisation with as clear a focus on fresh thinking as we have on growth and success. We value and nurture our people’s potential and inspiration and give them a creative, open and collaborative environment in which to develop a career and succeed.

We believe that whatever your legal experience, you’ll find Michelmores different. From day one we encourage our people to forge relationships and expand their understanding and knowledge of areas that interest them – developing an understanding of commercial challenges and opportunities, rather than just knowing the law. We nurture creative and commercial thinking to help in your long-term career success – it mirrors our approach to ensuring the very best outcomes for our clients too.

What sort of work? Right now, our highly regarded Real Estate Group is looking for an experienced Associate to join our growing team, with a real focus on Energy.

This position offers an opportunity to broaden your knowledge and progress your career in a supportive team environment.

The work will include:

  • Acting for key developer clients and landowner clients in the Energy sector across various asset types.
  • Supporting our commercial Energy team in relation to portfolio acquisitions, disposals and financing.
  • Opportunity to develop wider commercial property experience on investment, development and landlord and tenant transactions.

Why this team? Our Transactional Real Estate team is a leading real estate team operating across all offices and including many lawyers named as leading individuals in Chambers and Partners.

The team is seeing significant growth in Energy sector instructions and new clients across various asset types (in particular industrial rooftop solar projects and Battery Energy Storage Schemes (BESS)). The team also works closely with our commercial team providing real estate support to significant energy investment funds and managers on corporate acquisitions, disposals and secured lending. The team also provides real estate support to a leading BNG /habitat bank provider and this is a notable growth area for the firm.

How do we work? We take a flexible, agile approach to working patterns. As a team we agree together on the best working arrangements that will enable each of us to provide exceptional client service, to collaborate and connect with colleagues, and to achieve the right home/work balance. Most people in the team choose to work 2-3 days a week in the office, with the balance of time spent working from home. We pride ourselves on our high-performance culture whilst offering a good work/life balance.

As a Firm we are committed to supporting our people across all levels to achieve the balance they need. We are open to talk flexible working and to empower any candidate to put forward a flexible working pattern to meet their needs.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for somebody who will understand our values and thrive in our culture.

We are looking for an ambitious and commercially astute lawyer, who has gained broad experience in transactional investment work and, ideally, property energy sector work and who is now looking to develop their expertise further and help to grow the firm's offering on Energy projects. The role could be based from either our Exeter or Bristol offices.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3+ PQE in a commercial real estate practice, ideally with a focus on experience gained in the Energy sector or a clear interest to develop experience in that sector.
  • Depth of experience in Landlord & Tenant and general investment transactions.
  • A genuine interest in promoting business development opportunities and an ability to build effective and positive relationships with clients and colleagues that embrace the importance of trust and collaboration.

Other skills required include:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective communicator at all levels (written and verbal).
  • A commercial, pro-active and professional approach to work.
  • Excellent organisational skills, demonstrable examples of multi-tasking and an ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Must interact well with others in a sensitive and effective way - a team player.
  • Must be self-motivated, committed to working towards goals with strong enthusiasm and career commitment.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and use of discretion. Must be flexible, successfully adapting to changing demands and conditions.
  • Demonstrate self-confidence, initiative and be an innovative thinker.

This is a great opportunity to join a Firm which believes potential, inspiration, and teamwork should be valued and nurtured.

We work hard to create and sustain an open and collaborative environment. We embrace change and constantly evolve to meet our people’s diverse needs, in the same way that we help our clients to navigate and stay ahead of developments, to move forward together.
