Access Scholarship – ACTAPS Course Fees
The Course
The University of Law, in collaboration with ACTAPS, offers a training course for those specialising in contentious probate and trusts whose ultimate goal is to become members of this specialist association.
Predominantly distance learning, but supported by study sessions primarily at UoL's London Moorgate campus, this course is designed to develop expertise in contentious trusts and probate. The course is designed to be studied over three years although there is an option to fast-track and complete in two years, if preferred.
The ACTAPS course is open to all solicitors, barristers and legal executives. Upon successful completion you will become an associate member of ACTAPS, a forum which allows specialists in this field to exchange experience and expertise. Application for full membership of ACTAPS is at the discertion of the Association Committee. The application form and conditions of membership are available on the ACTAPS website.
The Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to promote better access to legal professionals who would like to practice and specialise in contentious trusts and probate work in the UK, together with helping them to make contacts and form networks with other solicitors specialising in this area of work.
The scholarship is designed to encourage lawyers and legal executives to undertake the ACTAPS course who would not ordinarily have had access to it, by virtue of a lack of specialisation in their current firms in this practice area, or a lack of funding available to put junior lawyers at the firm through the course. Preference will be given to applicants who the assessing panel feel meet these aims and guidance for the marking of applications (which will be made available to applicants) will be weighted towards applicants from firms who do not have a market presence in this area of work, or would not ordinarily fund placements on the course.
ACTAPS are offering two scholarships where by the full course fees, currently £7380, will be paid by the Association. Successful candidates will also be paired with an ACTAPS member as a mentor.
