New platform LawStreet lists every solicitor firm in England and Wales with no paid rankings
Free search site is the first in the UK to combine the full Solicitors Regulation Authority register with legal aid data, so people can see which firms will take on their case.
LawStreet (www.lawstreet.co.uk), a free and independent search platform listing every regulated solicitor firm in England and Wales, has launched to make finding the right legal help simpler and fairer.
The platform covers almost 9,000 solicitor firms across more than 15,000 offices, with data drawn directly from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and synced daily. Users can search by postcode, town, region, firm name or any of 23 practice areas, from family law and conveyancing to criminal defence and wills and probate.
Unlike existing commercial directories and referral sites, LawStreet carries no paid rankings, no sponsored listings and no paid lead generation. Results are ordered on relevance to the search alone, so a small high street practice appears on the same terms as a major national firm. Users are never sold to law firms as leads, and the platform completely independent and is part of the SRA Voluntary Code Partnership.
LawStreet was founded by brothers Joseph and George Hobson and criminal barrister Johan Grefstad, after their own experience of how difficult it is to find and compare solicitors online. Official registers hold only basic information with limited search, while commercial sites tend to promote the firms that pay the most.
George Hobson, co-founder of LawStreet, said: "Most people only need a solicitor in a moment of stress; a house move, a divorce, a dispute - and finding the right one shouldn't add to it. Paid ads and rankings based on marketing spend make it hard to know which firm is actually right for you. That's why we built LawStreet: an impartial comparison site with no paid rankings, built on the most comprehensive dataset of SRA-registered solicitors available. Helping you find the right solicitor in your moment of need.”
The platform is also the first in the UK to combine the full SRA register with legal aid data from the Legal Aid Agency. Nearly 1,800 firms offering legal aid can be searched across 17 categories, including family, housing, immigration and mental health, meaning people who qualify for government funded legal help can find a firm to take their case in a few clicks.
Johan Grefstad, co-founder and barrister, said: "Access to justice starts with knowing who can actually help you. Legal aid and general firm data have always lived apart, and nothing brought them together accurately enough to accurately reflect live/active contracts. LawStreet does. That's the gap we built it to close, the most accurate information possible, empowering people find the right representation from the very start of their search."
LawStreet is free for the public and always will be. Solicitor firms can claim and enhance their profiles, with paid plans available, but no payment affects where a firm appears in search results. The platform already attracts more than 200,000 visitors a month.
