Job introduction
We are looking for a Legal Secretary to join our Family team, which is one of the biggest in the South West and Band 3 ranked in Chambers and Partners UK 2023.
The team works across our five offices in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, advising individuals on a range of family matters including prenuptial and cohabitation agreements, child arrangements, care proceedings, divorce, separation, financial settlements, domestic abuse, and fertility law.
We have a vacancy for a Legal Secretary to join this successful department, specifically supporting the Family Finance and Divorce team. The role is fixed term for 12 months, covering maternity leave, with potential to extend the term. The role is based in our office on North Street, Bedminster, and is full time, although part time will be considered.
The role
This role promises to be both busy and varied. You can expect to be involved in:
+ Liaising with a range of individuals such as clients, solicitors, counsel and court staff
+ Meeting clients to complete basic forms or obtain further information and instructions
+ Organising meetings and conferences with counsel and clients (Zoom/Teams and in person)
+ Assisting in compliance with court timetables and requirements
+ Typing and using Big Hand dictation
+ Obtaining availability from and booking counsel/experts
+ Triaging new matters and ensuring compliance requirements are met
+ Preparing basic court forms and electronic court bundles
You will also be assisting with general administrative duties such as:
+ Taking telephone messages
+ Assisting with document management in the paper light case management system
+ Opening and closing matters on the case management system
+ Reviewing matters and identifying actions
+ Managing diaries
+ Monitoring emails and post
In addition to this, you will have some basic accounting responsibilities including preparing invoices and checking disbursements.
Full training will be given so that you are confident with our systems.

The ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will be a Law graduate or similar looking for experience working in a law firm. Experience or an interest in family law would be beneficial, particularly with the divorce process/financial settlements. Experience of working with vulnerable clients would also be an advantage.
You will be comfortable working with clients in a fast-paced environment and to tight deadlines.
Candidates must be competent in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PDF editing software, and audio typing.
Hours and location
+ Full time (part-time considered)
+ Working hours are 9am – 5.15pm, at least four days a week, with flexibility on hours a possibility.
+ Fixed term for 12 months to cover maternity leave
+ You will be based at our North Street office.
