Filing of bundles and case summaries on family proceedings

  • Posted on

I write to remind all practitioners of the importance of complying with the requirements of the Family Procedure Rules and the relevant Practice Direction concerning the filing of hearing bundles and preliminary documents such as case summaries.

A recurring difficulty has been the late filing of bundles. This creates unnecessary pressure on judicial resources and, more importantly, impedes the court's ability to prepare adequately for hearings. It can also lead to delay and inefficiency for the parties.

Practitioners are reminded that, pursuant to PD27A, the bundle must be lodged with the court no later than 5 working days before the hearing.

The preliminary documents should be filed by 11.00am on the working day before the hearing.

These requirements are not optional. They exist to ensure that hearings are effective, proportionate and properly prepared.

I would therefore be grateful if all firms could ensure that those responsible for preparing bundles and case summaries are familiar with the current requirements and adhere strictly to the prescribed deadlines.

Thank you for your cooperation.
