Higher Rights of Audience Training Launches in Bristol
Delivered by the UK’s Only SRA-Regulated Assessment Provider

Face-to-Face Higher Rights Training Comes to the South West
The University of Law is bringing its Higher Rights of Audience (HRA) advocacy training to Bristol this Summer, offering practitioners across the South West the opportunity to undertake high-quality, in person advocacy training with the UK’s only SRA-appointed provider authorised to design and deliver the Higher Rights assessment.
This launch responds to the growing demand for advanced advocacy training within the Bristol and wider South West legal community, providing a local route to higher rights training without the need to travel to London.
Why Obtain Higher Rights of Audience?
Obtaining Higher Rights of Audience enhances professional standing, expands the scope of work a Solicitor or CILEX member can undertake, and supports long-term career development.
For many practitioners, Higher Rights opens the door to appearing in the higher civil and criminal courts, taking greater ownership of cases and developing a more advocacy focused practice. Importantly, the advocacy skills developed through Higher Rights training deliver immediate professional value within day-to-day litigation and advisory work, well before qualification or assessment.
Higher Rights Advocacy Training at The University of Law
The University of Law provide Higher Rights training with unmatched flexibility and practitioner led expertise. We deliver Civil and Criminal Higher Rights Advocacy Training, designed for trainee solicitors, qualified solicitors and CILEX members.
Each pathway is structured to mirror the format of the Higher Rights assessment and is split into two distinct elements:
Part 1: Written Advocacy: Focuses on how to be ethically safe, how to use and marshal evidence, understanding procedural rules and developing the analytical and drafting skills required for effective written submissions.
Part 2: Practical Advocacy: This develops oral advocacy skills through realistic case scenarios, including interim applications and mini trials with structured feedback from experienced practitioner tutors including solicitor advocates and barristers with extensive courtroom experience.
All courses are delivered in small groups to maximise interaction, inclusion and individual feedback. At the University of Law, our training does not just prepare you to pass an assessment, we prepare you to perform confidently and effectively in practice.
