Home Buying and Selling Reform Consultation – Conveyancing task Force Response
As the consultation now enters its final days, we echo the Law Societies call to encourage further individual responses from conveyancing practitioners ahead of the closing date of 29 December.
The Conveyancing Task Force (CTF) has now submitted a collective, evidence-based response to the consultation, drawing on frontline experience from across the profession. This consultation is significant. Proposals under consideration include increased reliance on digital data, upfront information requirements, and changes that could materially affect risk, liability, professional responsibility and consumer protection in residential conveyancing. You can read the response here>> Ultimate Master CTF
One of the clearest messages from the Task Force’s work is that technology alone cannot fix systemic issues, and that reform must address accountability, governance and the realities of legal practice. These are matters that directly affect conveyancers, clients and the wider housing market.
Importantly, following sustained engagement by the profession, the CTF has secured a meeting with Ministry officials scheduled for 12 January, providing an opportunity to discuss these issues directly with policymakers. The strength of that engagement will be significantly reinforced if Government can see that individual practitioners and firms across the country are also responding in volume.
We therefore strongly encourage conveyancing members to:
- Read the attached CTF submission (PDF)
- Submit your own response to the consultation before the 29 December deadline
- Share your real-world experience of what causes delay, risk and consumer harm in practice

The more practitioners who engage, the harder it will be for policy to be shaped by assumption rather than evidence. This is a rare opportunity for conveyancers to ensure their voice is properly heard at a critical moment of reform.
